St Helens is our carnival hub – we’re taking over town!
Find out how you can Be a Tourist but here are practical tips to help with your travel plans:
For ease with travel, our first event is in Launceston on Saturday morning (Starts: 10:30 am for Elites & Junior Elites).
Stay in Launceston on Friday night. But from Saturday night and for the rest of the carnival stay in St Helens (8 nights). Nearby and recommended as well are Binnalong Bay and Steiglitz.
St Helens is 2 hours 20 minutes from Launceston.
Longest drive to any event from St Helens will be no more than 1 hour 30 minutes.
Last event is within one hour from Launceston Airport.
Schools Teams from Australia will be staying in central St Helens at Panorama St Helens (we’ve fully booked this venue).
Schools Teams from New Zealand will be staying at Big 4 St Helens Holiday Park (we’ve fully booked all self contained accommodation here).
Families wanting an “Invitational Camp” style experience for their children are encouraged to stay at this venue and will be given priority to any excess in self contained accommodation here. Details out soon.
Big 4 St Helens Holiday Park is a perfect place to camp or park your van – it’s our preferred caravan park. There’s a huge communal kitchen, a games room, a large modern undercover kitchen area with a pizza oven and a fire pit. There are plenty of powered and tent sites available. Stay here to feel a part of an orienteering community.
Bring your car by catching the Spirit of Tasmania from Melbourne to Devonport (followed by 1 hour 15 minutes drive to Launceston).
Fly in/out of Launceston if you are time pressed (including dawn flights Saturday morning).
Fly in/out of Hobart for a road trip (2 hours 20 minutes to Launceston & 3 hours 40 minutes to St Helens).
Rent a car if you fly (no public transport). For 10% off – Book with AutoRent Hertz – they’ve been supporting us run major events for years, providing us with utility vehicles.
